Meet basmah
Registered Psychotherapist
Vision: Whether therapy is completely new to you, or you have shown up to do this work before, I look forward to supporting you on your mental health journey in a non-judgemental and empathetic space. I believe that every person has what they need within them to handle whatever life brings. My goal is to partner with you as you make connections between your past, your current experience, and bravely envision your future.
How I Practice: As a therapist, I believe that an integrative approach is the best and strongest way to ensure that you feel supported within the therapeutic space. After receiving training in IFS (Internal Family Systems) through PESI, I always begin by gently exploring you and the parts that make up your system. Together we will see which parts we want to soften back, and which parts need us to witness them to feel more like our Self. I work through a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens that does not ignore social issues or external systemic factors that contribute to our problems. When relevant we will work together to integrate behavioural changes and somatic sensing to support change.
About Me: I come with several years of experience facilitating groups in mindfulness and wellness in community settings, in addition to mentoring and training youth and adults in their career development. I love being in nature, and believe that connecting to and grounding ourselves in nature can help us stay attuned to the present moment long enough to make significant changes in our lives. As someone who has always worked within diverse communities, I strive to work from an anti-oppressive and trauma informed lens. In addition, I have received training in Crisis Responding, Mental Health First-Aid, Embodied Activism, Internal Family Systems, Somatic integrations, Solution-Focused Career Counselling, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy and look forward to pulling from evidence-based theories to support you in a way that uniquely benefits you.
